Diagnosis:
Red spots in variable number on male sides over blue (or yellow)
background ; Dorsal and Anal, blue near base with red dots in lines
crossing rays (notably near base), followed by plain orange (or green) and
a red margin ; Caudal, red-brown innerly with orange distally and a
circumcaudal red border (Wildekamp, 1983b) ; the often sympatric annual
species Pronothobranchius kiyawensis (in a large sense) and
Fundulosoma thierryi are easily separated from adult males Caudal fin :
rounded for the former, fan-shaped with upper and lower extensions for the
latter (Huber, 2006b) ; distinguished from all congeners by male with about
30-50 dots on sides, each being lesser in diameter than the radius of the
pupil, a proximal (basal) band on Anal fin, Ventral fins reaching the genital
papillae, Dorsal fin tip reaching Caudal fin, female also with dots on sides,
Dorsal fin with 13-15 rays and 27-29 scales in the median lateral series
(LL) (Valdesalici, 2013).
